Economic Restructuring Committee

Purpose: involves analyzing current market forces to develop long-term solutions, such as recruiting new businesses, creatively converting unused space for new uses and sharpening the competitiveness of Main Street’s traditional merchants.

Proposed Work Plan

  • Training and education on topics pertinent to the committee
  • Business Assistance Program
  • Commercial district base map
  • Data collection
  • Building and business survey
  • Determine baseline for measuring success of programs
  • Conduct market analysis to identify types of businesses needed
  • Business owner and customer surveys
  • Provide secret shopper service
  • Survey business owners/property owners on attitudes toward revitalization and funding
  • Identify location and begin recruiting for high-end restaurant
  • Work with Design Committee to develop financial incentives for building rehab projects
  • Annual report of downtown economic progress (rehabs, private investment, new jobs, new businesses)
  • Work with the city to identify grant sources for capital improvements
  • Lobby city for capital improvements
